BRUNO KRETZSCHMAR

18U Boys

Coach Bruno was born and raised in Brazil, picking up competitive volleyball at age 13. After high school and club, he went on to become a four-year starter at Limestone University, where he captained for two years, earning several conference accolades and setting the record for most points in program history. Bruno ranked Top Ten Points/Set in the 2016 season and Top 9 Aces/Set in 2017 across the NCAA. After graduating from Limestone, he went on to play overseas in the UK and Israel before returning to the US as a player for Northeast Force in the VLA. Coach Bruno has been coaching boys volleyball since it became sanctioned by the SCHSL. Before then, he spent one season as a volunteer assistant coach at Bucknell University. Bruno is the Head Coach for the Wando boys volleyball program, where he was the 2023 Region 6-5A Coach of the Year.

BETTINA WOODMAN

Coach B grew up in Fairfield, CT as a four-sport athlete, starting at age five with soccer softball, basketball and finally finding and developing a passion for volleyball. She played high school and club volleyball, earning all-region honors and championships as a both a setter and libero, before going on to play DI at University of Hartford as a defensive specialist. Bettina has been coaching for 20 years with experience across all ages and levels for both girls and boys. She is in her 10th season as a club coach and recruiting coordinator in Charleston, where she continues to build her network and pursue educational opportunities to grow and adapt with the sport and guide athletes in their pursuit of a collegiate career. Coach B is currently in her second season with Wando High School boys volleyball. Coach B continues to compete at USAV Open Nationals and adult leagues.

ERIN KRETZSCHMAR
Master Coach & Recruiting Coordinator
15-1 Girls

Coach Erin, a Charleston native, is the current assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at The Citadel. She spent the 2021 season as an assistant at Bucknell after previously working as an education coach at the Primrose School of Mount Pleasant.  In 2018 and 2019, Kretzschmar played for the KK Tel Aviv professional team in Israel, where she was a starting middle blocker. She helped lead the team to a fourth-place finish in the Israeli Premier League, as well as an Israeli Cup semifinal finish. Prior to her professional stretch, Kretzschmar served as a graduate assistant coach for the Converse College volleyball program while she earned a master's degree in teaching. In the role, Kretzschmar assisted with recruiting, travel planning, individual and team practices, and scouting.  Kretzschmar put together a standout collegiate career during her time at Limestone, starting all four seasons and being named captain during her junior year. She was twice named All-Conference Carolinas Second Team and All-Tournament Team, and was a three-time selection as the Limestone Offensive Player of the Year. Following her final collegiate season, she served as a student assistant coach for the Limestone men’s volleyball team.

MARY HARRIET MOORE
18U Girls

Coach Mary Harriet is a Charleston native and grew up as a multi-sport athlete playing volleyball, soccer, and basketball. She attended Bishop England High where she played four years on the varsity volleyball and basketball teams. During her time at Bishop England, she won four state championships in volleyball, won two state championships in basketball, and garnered all-state, all-region, 2A Player of the Year, and Maxpreps.com All-American Honors before going on to play D1 volleyball at Davidson College. At Davidson, Moore was a middle blocker and four-year volleyball letterman- starting for two of those years. She was also named captain her senior year and was voted by her teammates as the Dr. Lou Ortmayer Wildcat Award recipient for best all-around teammate. After Davidson, Coach Mary Harriet attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and now practices law in the Charleston area. Coach Mary Harriet continues to play in adult indoor and beach leagues as well as annually at the USAV Adult Nationals. She is in her fourth year of coaching club volleyball.

COURTNEY SHINE
17U Girls

Coach Courtney Shine is a native of Moncks Corner, SC. She moved to Branchville SC her freshman year of high school where she played high school volleyball under Starr Bright. She was a standout on the volleyball court garnering many All-Region, All-Tournament honors. She was named the Times & Democrat player of the year, CAWS player of the year, also MVP of the North/South team in 2008.  Went on to play volleyball at Lander University where she was 2nd on the team in blocks and kills (2009-10). Coach Shine has coached both JV and Varsity Volleyball at Berkeley High School where she is starting her 10th year at Berkeley High School. She coached Club Volleyball for C4 club in Branchville for 2 years and Carolina islanders for 6 years. She is currently the head volleyball coach at Berkeley High School and works in Administration there. Coach Shine is married with two sons. When she is not doing volleyball she enjoys spending time with her family and having fun. Coach Shine is excited to join the coaching staff at Apex Volleyball Club and eager to continue to help train and develop collegiate level athletes.

KACPER DOBROWOLSKI
17U Boys [Volunteer]

Coach Kacper comes to Apex as the 2024 NAIA National Champion. During his four years at Georgetown, he was a starting setter, and in addition to the National Championship, he contributed to winning three conference championships. In his college career, Kacper achieved two All-American titles, two conference setter of the year awards, and the 2024 NAIA National Championship All-Tournament team award. Kacper has played volleyball for 15 years, inheriting his love for the sport from his father, who played professionally for more than 20 years. While in Poland, Kacper won three conference championship titles and qualified for the Polish National Championship tournament twice. He was also part of the U-22 National Team practice roster. Currently, Kacper is a graduate assistant at Charleston Southern University.

BRITNEY HELD
16U Girls

Coach Britney is originally from Brookfield, Wisconsin, and moved to Charlotte to play collegiate volleyball at UNC Charlotte from 2012-2015. Held wrapped up her playing career sitting sixth on Charlotte's all-time assists list, while majoring in English and a earning a minor in education. She then went on to receive her Masters in Education. Coach Britney coached with CUVC for eight seasons and CLT Beach for four years in the Charlotte area. She is currently an Implementation Specialist at Submittable located in Summerville, South Carolina, and continues to compete at the open level in both indoor and outdoor.

CARRIE YOHE
15-2 Girls

Coach Carrie Yohe has been around volleyball in the Charleston area since 1994. Originally from Elyria, OH she attended Charleston Southern University majoring in Physical Education and on the Women's Volleyball team (1994- 1998). Coach Carrie is still currently ranked 3rd in Career Blocks with 416 (1994- 1997), 5th for Individual Season Block Assists with 108 (1997), 10th in Individual Season Total Blocks with 138 (1997). She finished up her college career by earning Female Athlete of The Year 1994 and Physical Education Major of The Year 1994. Coach Carrie is currently a Physical Education teacher at Westview Elementary School in Goose Creek, SC. She is married to Tim Yohe with two children Liz and Becca, and their dog Ace (King of The Court). Both girls are graduates of Summerville High School. Liz played volleyball at Converse College and is the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Summerville High School. Becca is a 2023 graduate of Summerville and is playing volleyball at Erskine College. Coach Carrie’s philosophy: Coaching and teaching are not just about the sport or the game. We coach the whole person. Sports teach us more than a game, they teach us life skills. GAYLEN FRONK
14U Girls

Coach Fronk played at Davidson College and served as a 2-year captain. Gaylen’s collegiate role was primarily as a setter, but now plays other positions in quads, triples, co-ed, etc. Coach Fronk’s coaching experience includes three years at Madtown Juniors (LOVB club in Madison, WI) as a 13U and 14U head and assistant coach. Gaylen has her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and is relocating to Charleston, SC for her residency at MUSC.

JULIA FLEDDERJOHN
14U Girls

Julia Fledderjohn is a student-athlete at Charleston Southern University, where she is studying Marketing while playing volleyball. She will be a junior year this year as a defensive specialist for her team. Julia has played volleyball for ten years, with many of those years being in Michigan where she grew up. With coaching experience at Legacy Volleyball Club in Michigan, Julia is passionate about skill and character development, and helping athletes extend their careers to the collegiate level.

KENZIE MARTIN
13U Girls

In 2023, Coach Kenzie started in 28 matches for The Citadel, recorded a 243 kills, 29 assists, and 15 service aces. Kenzie tallied at least ten kills in nine matches and recorded a season-high 20 kills against Furman. She ranked third on the team in digs with 307 on the season. Prior to The Citadel, Coach Kenzie played at Tulane and completed her career with the Green Wave with 478 kills, 591 digs, and 40 total blocks. Martin enjoyed her best season in 2022 as she set single-season highs in kills (276) and digs (265) with her career-high for kills with 29 against Lamar. Kenzie Holds Tulane's record for the most digs in an individual match, with 41 against SMU in 2021.

13U Girls

Coach Ruffin has had an unprecedented career at The Citadel, and is one of the most decorated athletes in school history, across all programs. In her most recent season, Ruffin achieved one of the most dominant individual seasons in program history, reaching the 1,000-kill mark as a junior and recorded a single-season program record of 529 kills (12th in the NCAA), averaging 4.52 kills per set. Ali tallied a season-high 47 service aces, posted 405 digs and recorded 12 20-kill matches, including 20 double-doubles on the season, nine of which were in straight matches. Coach Ruffin ranked 11th in attacks per set in the NCAA and eighth in total attacks with 1,458 - all in an undefeated regular season in 2023. Ruffin coached three seasons at ECJVC for pre-travel teams, camps and clinics for girls ages 6-18. 12U Girls

As an All-Atlantic Sun Second Team performer and team captain at Mercer, Coach Emily led the conference in digs and was ranked 30th in the nation in the category as a junior. Her 556 digs rank fourth in Mercer single-season history as she reached double-digit digs in 27 of 29 matches. Additionally, she was a letter-winner and captain of the Bears' beach volleyball team. The Atlantic Sun All-Academic honoree graduated from Mercer in 2014 with a degree in communications and received a Master's in education with a concentration in higher education leadership in 2015. Emily was the GA for Mercer for a season while she finished her masters.  Coach Emily moved back to Savannah after graduating, and became the Director of the Volleyball Program at St. Andrew's School, where she led all varsity / JV practices / games, while also overseeing practices, training, clinics and camps for 1st-8th grades. She was also the middle school athletic director while there.  Emily coached for Club Savannah for four seasons - ages ranging from 13 to 18.  She was hired as the Rutgers Director of Volleyball Operations in March of 2020, where she oversaw all logistical aspects of the program for two seasons, while also learning and observing some of the top college coaches in the US. Now, Emily works as an executive recruiter for The Millard Group and coaches club and at COK.

KELLY OWENS

Coach Kelly is a Charleston native and played DII volleyball in the South Atlantic Conference at Mars Hill University. She continued her education at the College of Charleston, where she graduated with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. Later she also received a Master’s in Educational Administration from Liberty University. Coach Kelly attended Middleton High School where she played both volleyball and basketball and earned all-conference honors. Coach Kelly has thirty years of experience in education, with twenty of those as a classroom teacher, and she is currently an assistant principal at Hanahan Middle School. She also serves as the Boys Volleyball Outreach Director for the USA Palmetto Volleyball Region and was the Chair of the Boys HS Volleyball Sanctioning Committee.

SAVANNAH MILLER
Mental Performance Coach

Coach Savannah is an assistant Volleyball coach at Porter-Gaud. In 2022, she received a Master's degree in Sport Psychology and Motor Behavior from the University of Tennessee. After graduation, Savannah spent a summer training in Gold Medal Squared methodology and joined the University of Miami Volleyball staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2022 season where the Hurricanes competed in the NCAA Division I Championships, the program's 11th appearance. Coach Savannah is a USAV Open Champion. She previously played collegiate volleyball as a Defensive Specialist for Clemson University 2012-13. She finished her volleyball career as an Outside Hitter with the Clemson University Club volleyball team, where she helped lead the club to the NCVF Championships in 2015 and 2016. She was awarded club MVP her senior year. Native to Charleston, Coach Savannah played volleyball for Wando High, earning All-Region, All-Lowcountry, All-State, All-Tournament, and All-Star honors. She also helped her 17's club team earn a bid to the USAV Junior National Championships in 2011. Coach Savannah is an advocate for ending abuse in sport, and she believes in the power of vulnerability. She views hardships as growth opportunities; her past experiences inform her compassionate, athlete-led coaching style where athletes have the autonomy to creatively problem-solve and take charge of turning their dreams into reality. This will be her 8th year coaching. Outside of coaching, Savannah enjoys collegiate volleyball officiating and she is an animal enthusiast.

DONYA AMER
Business Development | Mentor

Coach Donya Amer is from Mount Pleasant, SC. She graduated from Ashley Hall School earning two state championships during her time. She continued her academic and athletic career at Wofford College majoring in French and Business. During her time at Wofford she began her coaching career at Upward Stars. Donya has coached various ages spanning from 10-18 years old for the past 15 years. When Donya is not coaching, she is teaching 3rd grade at Memminger Elementary School. Donya currently coaches both JV and Varsity volleyball at her alma mater, Ashley Hall.
